Nima, a teacher in Bhutan, is falsely accused of appearing in a non-consensual pornographic video. She travels to southern Bhutan to find her lookalike, Meto, but learns Meto has left the country. Unconvinced, Nima investigates Meto’s life, encountering her friends and family. As Nima unravels the mystery, she discovers Meto’s disappearance is tied to a stolen sacred song, and realizes she must resolve the situation herself. I, THE SONG explores themes of exploitation, music, identity, love, and a culture at risk in the digital age.

ಭೂತಾನಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ನಿಮಾ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಶ್ಲೀಲ ವಿಡಿಯೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಆಪಾದನೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಷಕರು ಬಂದು ಗಲಭೆ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಶಾಲಾ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೆಲಸದಿಂದ ತೆಗೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಸುಳ್ಳು ವಿಡಿಯೋದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ಮೆಟೊ ಎಂದು ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ನಿಮಾ ಮೆಟೊವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಂಡು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭೂತಾನಿಗೆ ಪಯಣಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಆಕೆ ರಹಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ಮೆಟೊನ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿರುವುದು, ಮತ್ತು ಕದ್ದ ತೊಮೋಶೊನ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಹಾಡಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಈ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಪರಿಹರಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿ, ಕಾರ್ಯಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಳಾಗುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

DECHEN RODER

Dechen Roder is a pioneering female filmmaker from Bhutan. She founded Dakinny Productions in 2009 and directed LO SUM CHOE SUM (2015), which competed at Berlinale Shorts. Her debut feature, HONEYGIVER AMONG THE DOGS (2017), premiered at Busan and Berlinale, winning three awards at Fribourg. It was Bhutan’s first film nominated for an Asia Pacific Screen Award. Her second feature, I, THE SONG, continues her exploration of cultural themes. Roder is also the founder of the Beskop Tshechu FF.
