Malu, a mercurial, unemployed actress living with her conservative mother in a precarious house in a Rio de Janeiro slum, tries to deal with her strained relationship with her own adult daughter while surviving on memories of her glorious artistic past.

PEDRO FREIRE

Pedro Freire is a Brazilian filmmaker whose work spans film, television, and stage. He graduated from EICTV (Cuba) and CAL (Rio de Janeiro) and has directed acclaimed short films that have screened at prestigious international festivals, including Venice, Locarno, and Havana. Freire has collaborated with esteemed filmmakers such as Abbas Kiarostami and Ruy Guerra, and has assisted directors like Jonathan Nossiter and Karim Aïnouz. He wrote the screenplay for the feature HOPEFULS, winner of the Carte Blanche prize at Locarno 2014. His diverse career includes directing theatre productions, notably Harold Pinter's OLD TIMES and contributing to numerous television series.
