ಹದಿಮೂರು ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಟಿಯಲ್, ಅಮೆಜಾನ್‌ ಮಳೆಗಾಡಿನ ನಡುವೆ ಇರುವ ಮಾರ್ಜೋ ದ್ವೀಪವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಕನಸುಗಾರ್ತಿಯಾದ ತನ್ನ ಅಕ್ಕನ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದ ಅವಳು ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧಳಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ಜಗತ್ತು ತಾನು ತಿಳಿದಷ್ಟು ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಅರಿಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಅವಳ ಭ್ರಮೆಗಳು ಕುಸಿಯಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿವೆ. ಬೇರೂರಿರುವ ಶೋಷಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯದ ಚಿತ್ರಣ ಕಂಡು ಅಧೀರಳಾಗುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ತನ್ನ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ತನ್ನ ಕಿರಿಯ ಸಹೋದರಿಯನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ತನ್ನ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಶೋಷಣೆಯನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುವ ಧೈರ್ಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

MARIANNA BRENNAND

Marianna Brennand, a UCSB film graduate, returned to Brazil to make a documentary about her great-uncle FRANCISCO BRENNAND, a renowned ceramic artist. Her film FRANCISCO BRENNAND premiered in 2012, winning Best Brazilian Documentary and Best Brazilian Film at the São Paulo FF. In 2007, she directed O COCO, A RODA, O PNEU E O FAROL, about the rich musical tradition of COCO DE RODA in Olinda, Pernambuco. MANAS, her feature film debut, is based on a decade of research into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and teenagers on Marajó Island in the Amazon rainforest.
